Berni Bean Coffee Co.
Our Story
A family story that begins with a wandering farmer in Costa Rica and continues in every cup served in Dallas.

Our roots
The story begins with the Berninis’ great-grandfather, whom they describe as a wandering farmer. Although he did not have a high school diploma, he recognized the potential of Costa Rican agriculture.
By buying and selling parcels of land—sometimes paying for them through the work of his own hands—he mastered the art of cultivation. His skill, together with Costa Rica’s naturally abundant highlands, created the recipe for unparalleled coffee.
That family story, their love for coffee and their drive to share the experience inspired the Berninis to bring their coffee to America.
Where our coffee comes from
Over the years, the Berninis have traveled across Costa Rica, tasting coffees, meeting producers and learning from the people behind every harvest.
Today, Berni Bean sources coffee from different growing regions throughout Costa Rica. We build meaningful relationships with producers across the country and select some of their finest coffees for their quality, character and exceptional flavor.
Every coffee tells a different story, shaped by its origin, elevation, variety and process. Together, they allow us to share the incredible diversity of Costa Rican coffee in every cup.
How our coffee is processed
The coffee is hand-picked by workers at the plantation and guided through a meticulous selection process. In large pools of water, the floating beans are separated and reserved for other purposes.
The selected beans then begin the drying process, developing honey tonalities and fruity sweetness. For approximately two to three weeks, they are carefully supervised and handled until they reach a moisture level of 10.5 percent.
From Costa Rica to Dallas
Giuliana’s time in New York as a food scientist, together with Stefano’s creative thinking, inspired them to open Berni Bean in Dallas.
The coffee is imported to the United States and roasted by a roaster who shares their passion and vision. This final step transforms the beans into the aromas and flavors enjoyed in each morning cup.
Berni Bean is currently located in Dallas, with new locations to come. In the meantime, the coffee can also be enjoyed at home.
